This Rosh Hashanah, as usual, I am making some favorite New Year
desserts. Some years, I go exotic and complicated but this year,
after a summer of change and kitchen renovations, simplicity is
in order. Still, simple can be special. I am delighted to share
a delectable Sticky Chewy Mandelbrot which is really gourmet biscotti,
a exceptionally moist, orange-tinged honey cake, my favorite apple
Bubka Bread (really, an easy Danish pastry) and You Tube Apple
Cake, something fun, sweet and contemporarily, a Jewish New Year
delight.
May I wish you, via these recipes from my table to yours, a
sweet and wonderful new year, or as they say, ‘all good
things’, always.
Recipes
Sticky
Chewy Honey Mandelbrot
Sweet pecans, vanilla halvah, and honey make this the ultra
Mandelbrot for a sweet new year. Halvah is a sweet sesame Middle
Eastern ‘fudge’ or confection. It comes off huge blocks
in deli’s or Middle Eastern Stores or packed in cans in
the fine food sections. It is easily available online.
Orange
and Tea Honey Cake
This high and moist cake is easy, elegant, and is medium-hued
in color. Apricot preserves add flavor, sweetness, and moistness.
Apple
Bubka Bread
Lightly sweetened dough cradles chunks of apples, tossed in
sugar and cinnamon. This is really a gorgeous, sweet yeasted coffeecake
masquerading as bread...
You
Tube Apple Cake
Apples, batter, spice and a nice, leisurely bake, result in
a fragrant, autumn, apple cake fit for the Jewish New Year and
You Tube? When You Tube first got its big break in fame, I created
something special to go with it. This easy and unique apple cake
is so special, that it is now a part of my Rosh Hashanah, (with
a nod to cyber space) menu. You can also use an angel food cake
pan or a Bundt for this marvelous cake.
