Fig and Walnut Cookies
3/4 cup shortening 1 1/2 cup light brown sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup milk 3 cups sifted flour 3 teaspoons Rumford Baking Powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground clove 1 cup figs, cut fine 1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:1. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy. 2. Add egg and beat well. 3. Stir in milk. 4. Sift flour, Rumford Baking Powder, salt, cinnamon and clove together and stir in figs and nuts. Mix well. 5. Form into rolls and wrap in waxed paper. Chill thoroughly in refrigerator. 6. Slice 1/8 inch thick and bake on greased baking sheet in hot oven (400° F.) 10-12 minutes. Makes 6 dozen cookies.
