Stained Glass Sugar Cookies


6 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
* 4 oz. crushed hard candies, different colors
*You may crush candy by placing separate colors into plastic bags, covering with dish towels, and hit with mallet.


In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugar and egg. Mix in milk and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder and salt. Slowly add this mixture to creamed mixture and blend well.
When thoroughly mixed, cover and refrigerate dough for at least 3 to 4 hours, or overnight.
Roll dough as for sugar cookies, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and place on greased cookie sheets. Cut centers out of cookies in desired shapes and fill holes with different colors crushed candy, making sure top of candy is level with top of cookie.

Bake at 375 degrees F. for 7 to 8 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for at least 10 minutes.
