Michigan Apple-Cheese Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 apple - peeled & shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 - 2 teaspoons milk
  • chopped walnuts
  • nutmeg

Instructions:

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy; add eggs and mix well. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Fold in apples, cheese and nuts. Spoon into greased and floured loaf pan

Bake at 350°F. for 60 minutes, until tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack before glazing.

Prepare Glaze:
Combine powdered sugar and milk. Pour over cooled loaf; garnish with chopped nuts and sprinkle with nutmeg.
