Sweet and Sour Cranberry Meatballs
- 1 can jellied cranberry sauce
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon citric acid or sour salt
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 a small onion, finely minced or grated
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
In a 4 quart saucepan, over low to medium heat, combine the cranberry sauce, ketchup brown sugar and lemon juice and heat to just simmer.
Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, onion and seasonings. Form into one inch balls.
Place the meatballs in the simmering sauce and let simmer on very low for one hour. Add in the citric acid, as per taste.

Cranberry sauce is the secret ingredient here. These are great served over basmati rice.
