Clabber Girl

Clabber Girl is one of the oldest American food brands still in use. Clabber Girl Corporation is an expert in chemical leavening and have been doing so since the 1870s when the first baking powder was introduced under the brand names Crystal and Milk. The Clabber Girl brand dates back to 1899 when Hulman & Co. introduced the Clabber Brand Baking Powder. Before the creation of baking powder, people used sour milk, called clabber, to leaven their breads. Hulman & Co. chose the name Clabber as people were familiar with it being a leavening agent. In the 1920s, Hulman & Co. realized that everyone was referring to the baking powder as Clabber Girl, due to the image on the front of the can. The name was changed to Clabber Girl in 1923.

Clabber Girl products are not just sold in retail stores, they are prominently used in food service and industrial or manufacturing applications. Our research and development team is consistently bringing new products to market to help with leavening in frozen applications, improving shelf life and providing clean label technology.
