White Buttercream Frosting

This frosting is perfect to go with our white cake. The butter is whipped so it is as light as can be, making this a practically white frosting with all the flavor of a regular buttercream.


  • 1 tsp. clear vanilla extract
  • 3 3/4 c. powdered sugar plus more if needed
  • 2-4 Tbsp. heavy cream or whole milk
  • 1 1/2 c. unsalted butter softened


Beat the butter until smooth and fluffy, it should visibly lighten in color. Add the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, and beat until incorporated. Add 2 tablespoons of the heavy cream and beat well on medium speed. Add the vanilla extract. If the mixture is too stiff, add more milk until the mixture is firm and creamy.
