Moist Pumpkin Bread

You can also pour the batter into a bundt pan. Bake time will alter slightly to about an hour and ten minutes.


  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 lg. eggs
  • 2 c. mashed pumpkin
  • 2/3 c. water
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 c. chopped walnuts
  • Powered Sugar Glaze
    • 1 c. powdered sugar sifted
    • 1 tbsp. milk or orange juice
    • 1/4 tsp. vanilla


Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in Pumpkin and water.

Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Fold in nuts. Fold into 2 greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans.

Bake at 350 F. for one hour or until tests done. To prepare the glaze, combine all ingredients and blend until there are no lumps. Drip glaze over warm bread.
