Hot Fudge Brownie Pudding Cake

This is easy and wonderfully, deeply chocolate. It's probably the precursor to today's trendy molten chocolate cakes but decidedly more low tech.

This is a simple and wonderfully delicious desert recipe. Although not prepared like other traditional cakes; in the end your family and friends will truly enjoy this light and fluffy chocolate cake floating in a pool of warm fudge sauce. Be creative and add ice cream or whipped toppings to create variations of this exceptional desert. Enjoy the taste complexity of a trendy 5-star molten chocolate cake experience with this decidedly lower tech and delicious recipe.


  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 c. walnuts finely chopped
  • 1 c. brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 c. cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 c. hot water


Preheat oven to 350 F. Generously spray a 9-inch pan (round or square) with non-stick cooking spray.

In a mixer bowl, blend the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Then add in the milk and butter. Stir in nuts. Pour into prepared pan. In another medium bowl, blend the brown sugar and cocoa. Sprinkle over batter and then pour the hot water over the ingredients in the pan.

Bake for 45 minutes until cake puffs up and seems set. Serve as is or with ice-cream or whipping cream.
