Buttercream Frosting

This is the classic, quintessential buttercream frosting that can be used on cakes, cupcakes, brownies-basically any baked good that needs an added sweetness. It will set up and partially dry overnight. If the mixture is too stiff, add more milk until the mixture is firm and creamy. If it is too runny, add more powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. unsalted butter softened
  • 3 3/4 c. powdered sugar more if needed
  • 2-4 tbsp. heavy cream or milk
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Beat the butter until smooth and fluffy. Add half of the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, and beat until incorporated. Add 2 tablespoons of the heavy cream and beat well on medium speed. Add the vanilla extract. If the mixture is too stiff, add more milk until the mixture is firm and creamy.
