There are two kinds of cheese in these biscuits (Pepper Jack and Cheddar) that go so well with the garlic.

  • 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 3/4 tsp. garlic powder divided
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. pepper jack cheese shredded
  • 1/2 c. cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp. butter melted

Preheat oven to 425 F. Combine flour, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and salt. Using a pastry blender or 2 forks, cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. With a fork, add buttermilk and cheeses and stir until mixture forms a soft dough. Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Combine butter and remaining 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder; brush on biscuits tops. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
