Low Fat Brownies

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs separated
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a bowl combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, cream together sugars, egg yolks, applesauce and vanilla. In a small bowl beat egg whites until foamy. Add to creamed mixture. Stir flour mixture in, and add walnuts if using.

Pour batter into a 13x9-inch cake pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.

Bake cake in oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool on wire rack.
