Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Sift flour, Rumford Baking Powder, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves together. Add nuts.
Combine egg, milk, and shortening, and pour into dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten.
Use a tablespoon to dip batter into greased muffin pans and fill 2/3 full. Bake for 20 minutes until browned. Makes 12 muffins.
