These biscuits were the 2nd place winner of the 2001 Missouri State Fair, submitted by Connie Sommer of Kearney, Missouri. They are slightly sweetened by honey, and perfect with a warm pat of butter.

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 3 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 egg

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

In a bowl, combine the flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder, sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine the honey, milk, and egg; stir into flour mixture just until combined. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter; place 1-inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Yields 10 biscuits.
