Aunt Nannie's Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. Davis Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Soda
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk


Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.

In a large bowl, sift flour, Davis Baking Powder, salt and Clabber Girl Baking Soda. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and toss with a fork or wet hands until dough sticks together. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Roll dough out 3/4- inch thickness. Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits.

Place biscuits about 2-inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.

Yields: one dozen biscuits
