Aunt Sally's Nut Loaf

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1 tsp. lemon zest
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk


Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 8x4-inch loaf pan; set aside.

In a large bowl, sift together flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder, salt and sugar. Cut in shortening until mixture is fine. Blend in nuts, raisins and lemon rind. In a separate bowl beat together egg and milk; all to dry ingredients and stir until flour mixture is just dampened. 

Spoon batter into prepared loaf pan; bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until bread tests done. 

Cool thoroughly.
