These French fried onions are coated in a beer batter made with baking powder. The addition of baking powder will make the onions puffier as the baking powder reacts both to the beer and the frying.

  • 1 qt. vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. beer
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
  • 4 onion peeled and sliced

In a large, deep skillet, heat oil to 365 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, beer, baking powder salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth. Dip onion slices in the batter, until evenly coated. Deep fry in the hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
